Employment Opportunities for Teachers

Princeton Charter School (PCS) opened as a new public charter school in September 1997. In April of 2002, PCS become the first charter school in the nation accredited by the American Academy of Liberal Education, and in September 2004, the United States Department of Education named PCS a "No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School," recognizing the school as a national model of excellence.

The school offers students in kindergarten through grade eight an academically rigorous education. The school campus in Princeton Township, New Jersey includes four buildings: a K-4 classroom building completed in September 2004, a 5-8 classroom building, a farmhouse used by the administration, and a campus center with rooms for art and music, a theater, and a gymnasium for indoor recreation.

Princeton Charter School employs teachers of:

  • English Language and Literature

  • Science
  • History and Geography
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Kindergarten

  • Second Grade

Some faculty serve as part-time administrators, including the Head of School and three Assistant Heads. Teaching faculty also serve as coordinators of professional development and athletics.

Occasionally there are part-time opportunities which may be brought up to full-time status by teachers whose expertise covers more than one subject area.

NOTE: New Jersey law requires all public-school teachers to obtain a New Jersey teaching certificate or "Alternate Route" provisional license, which allows individuals to teach for one year while completing required short courses in essential areas of professional knowledge and skills. Alternate-route certificate holders are encouraged to apply, and PCS may be able to expedite the certification for experienced teachers. Certificates from other states are usually accepted after verification of course work and documentation of one year of full-time teaching experience. Information about permanent and provisional licenses may be obtained by applying to the State of New Jersey, Department of Education, Office of Licensing and Academic credentials, CN 500, Trenton, NJ 08625-0500 (add Attn: Alternate Route if applicable).
